The Board of
Directors of the Florida Alliance of Information and Referral Services
created the award in 1997 as the George W. McKinney Award, to honor the
memory of a longtime friend of FLAIRS and AIRS Board of Directors
member. It was presented for first time in 1997 at the training
conference to David Cueny, who remembered George’s accomplishments and
friendship in accepting the award. With David’s untimely passing in
2001, the FLAIRS Board had opportunity to again recognize him for his
work in the I&R field, including his impact on technology and software
advancements. The award was renamed in 2001 in memory of David, for his
commitment and considerable contribution to the I&R industry.
