The Board of Directors of the Florida Alliance of Information and Referral Services created the award in 1997 as the George W. McKinney Award, to honor the memory of a longtime friend of FLAIRS and AIRS Board of Directors member. It was presented for first time in 1997 at the training conference to David Cueny, who remembered George’s accomplishments and friendship in accepting the award. With David’s untimely passing in 2001, the FLAIRS Board had opportunity to again recognize him for his work in the I&R field, including his impact on technology and software advancements. The award was renamed in 2001 in memory of David, for his commitment and considerable contribution to the I&R industry.

Nomination of individuals must be made by supervisors or CEOs of agencies that are AIRS members that provide any type of information & referral or crisis services. A maximum of two nominations are allowable from one nominator.

To be eligible, a candidate must:
    • Be a volunteer or employee for at least one year
    • Working in the field of I&R or crisis services
    • Demonstrate outstanding commitment to the field and or organization

A complete nomination form must be submitted by the deadline. The narrative section should explain the specifics of the individual’s accomplishments, such as:
    • Implementation of a substantial new program
    • Significant changes to an existing program
    • Development of a process that enhanced service effectiveness
    • A measurable impact on the community’s view or use of your service
    • Enhancement of the daily operation of your organization beyond the expected

Finalists will be named and the winner announced at the FLAIRS Annual Meeting Luncheon during the February 2008 conference. The Award includes a free conference registration for 2008, inclusion in the AIRS newsletter, press release for the local paper, and notification of the winner’s CEO and supervisor.
